Blotters: Multiple departments try to stop teen driving wrong direction

• Officers from Southold, Riverhead and Southampton worked to try and stop an erratic driver who nearly struck a Riverhead police car head on early Sunday morning.

According to Southold police, Riverhead requested assistance in stopping the vehicle, which was driving with headlights off in the wrong direction around 3 a.m.

Southold police deployed spike strips in order to stop the vehicle, which fled westbound on Route 25. The pursuit was terminated by a Riverhead sergeant a short time later, when the vehicle was located in Southampton Town’s jurisdiction.

Officials from Southampton police department said the tire blew on the vehicle, causing it to strike a mailbox on Old Quogue Road around 3:20 a.m.

The 17-year-old driver and two passengers were not injured in the accident and it’s unclear if the driver is facing any charges.

• A Riverside man was arrested after he was found in possession of items, including a pair of sunglasses, that a woman reported stolen from her vehicle on Pegs Lane around 3:45 a.m. Friday morning.

Jose Salvador-Rivera, 26, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police officials said, and released on an appearance ticket.

• Police arrested Cindy Molesso, 47, for DWI in Northampton last Tuesday afternoon after she reportedly crashed her car on Moriches Riverhead Road.

She told police she drank last night and was on her way to a methadone clinic to get a prescription, reports said.

She was arrested and transported to Stony Brook Hospital and is due back in court at a later date, police said.

• Detectives are investigating after a Riverside woman reported that someone used her social security number to obtain a $24,500 loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The woman reportedly contacted the company and will not be held liable for the money and was advised to review her credit card history.

She reported the incident to police Saturday morning.

• Ronald Love, 54, was arrested on Lake Avenue in Riverside Saturday after he was found to be driving with multiple license suspensions.

He was arrested for third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and released on an appearance ticket around 2 a.m., police said.

• Police arrested Margaret Bergh, 66, on Peconic Avenue in Riverside after she was found to be driving with a suspended license around 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

She was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and released on an appearance ticket, reports said.

• Wayne Drexel Jr., age and residence undisclosed, was charged with DWI following a traffic stop on Riverside Drive early Saturday morning. The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m.

• Danielle Magee, age and residence undisclosed, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny last Wednesday for an incident that occurred at the Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Outlet at Tanger Outlets Center. No additional information was released.

• A theft was reported at the Abercrombie and Fitch store at Tanger Outlet Center last Tuesday afternoon for an unknown value. Other reported larcenies occurred at the Calvin Klein Outlet ($3,600), North Face ($800), Target ($400), Walmart (amount unknown) and Famous Footwear (amount unknown) and advertising signs were removed from Roanoke Laundry. A wallet was also reported stolen from Dick’s Sporting Goods on Route 58 Sunday.

• The Cheese & Spice Market in Wading River reported that an unknown customer paid with a counterfeit bill last Wednesday afternoon.

• A woman reported that someone used her credit card last Thursday afternoon to purchase $31 worth of gasoline from the BJ’s station on Route 58. 

• A Wading River woman reported Saturday morning that she was the victim of an identity theft scam. She said she lost $800.

• A vehicle refused to pull over for police during an attempted traffic stop on Melene Avenue around 5 a.m. Saturday, fleeing the area.

• Riverhead police received a report last Tuesday of an unknown person attempting to reach guests at the Holiday Inn Express on Route 58 with a telephone scam.

• A complainant reported being harassed by two unknown males on East Second Street last Wednesday morning. No additional information was released.

• Police confiscated the license plates of a vehicle with a North Carolina license registration while it was parked outside Walmart on Old Country Road last Tuesday. Police were called again to the store later that day to resolve a dispute between a customer and an employee.

• An assault was reported at Speedway Gas Station at 870 Old Country Road Friday evening. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. No arrests were made.

• Three residents of Overlook Drive in Aquebogue reported Tuesday morning that their vehicles had been broken into.

• A lock was damaged on a shed at Michelangelo’s in Riverhead last Thursday. No items were reported missing.

• Juveniles were reported for throwing bricks at a vehicle at Reeve’s Beach Friday evening. No arrests were made.

Blotters: Woman charged under Leandra’s Law after passenger throws himself from moving vehicle

A woman was arrested under Leandra’s Law for driving while intoxicated with her toddler daughter in the vehicle Saturday night in Flanders, according to Southampton Town police.

An officer on patrol noticed a man lying in the shoulder of Flanders Road. The man revealed to the officer that he had gotten into a verbal dispute with his brother and threatened to throw himself out of the vehicle if the driver did not stop. When the driver, Jessica Cuevas, 28, of Schenectady failed to stop, the man did throw himself out of the vehicle, police said.

He suffered serious injuries to his back and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for further evaluation.

Police said Ms. Cuevas had a strong smell of alcohol on her breath, was unsteady on her feet and had glassy, bloodshot eyes. She performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the report.

She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated DWI.

• A Riverhead man caught driving without a license or registration had his car impounded after he was stopped on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays Friday afternoon.

Leonard Rempe, 54, had his driver’s license revoked on Jan. 29, 2018, due to a prior driving while intoxicated charge. 

Police said a vehicle-mounted plate reader recognized that Mr. Rempe had a suspended registration and he was pulled over at about 2:25 p.m. Police confirmed that his registration was suspended July 13 due to an insurance lapse.

He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and released on an appearance ticket. His vehicle was towed to police headquarters.

• Nicki Cappola, 48, of Riverhead was charged with misdemeanor prostitution after allegedly agreeing to perform a sex act on a plain clothes police officer in exchange for a fee on Flanders Road in Riverside Sunday night.

• A single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Speonk Riverhead Road resulted in an extended road closure in the northbound lane as PSEG crew repaired a damaged pole.

Police received a 911 call shortly before 5:30 a.m. and responding officers found that a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero had struck two electrical poles.

One man was located still in the vehicle and another man was outside the car. They were both transported to area hospitals and the crash is currently under investigation, police said.

• Two hand tools valued at $600 were stolen from a car parked on East Main Street last Thursday afternoon, according to Riverhead Town police. 

• A woman was seen stealing $124 worth of produce from the Bay View Market in Aquebogue last Thursday afternoon, according to police. 

• A wallet containing a driver’s license and $100 cash was reported stolen from an unlocked car on Union Avenue in Aquebogue last Tuesday night. 

• A brown and beige backpack was reported stolen from an unlocked car on Sweezey Avenue Saturday night. The bag contained women’s clothing, a pair of shoes and Airpods, according to police. 

• Christopher Otten, 30, address unavailable, was charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday night on Meeting House Creek Road in Aquebogue, according to police. 

• A bicycle was reported stolen from outside the Stop & Shop on Route 58 Saturday afternoon, according to police. Additional information was not available.

Southampton Blotter: Woman arrested on drug charges after being found in possession of crack cocaine

Southampton Town police arrested an East Northport woman on drug charges in Riverside Sunday.

According to a police report, an officer stopped Heather Clynes, 45, as she was walking northbound on Riverleigh Avenue around 9 p.m. and noticed she was trying to hide something in the sleeve of her coat.

The woman reportedly pushed an officer as she tried to walk away and refused to put her hands behind her back.

After being tazed by an officer, she unclenched her fist and was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a glass crack pipe, police said.

Ms. Clynes was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, according to police.

• Carlos Benitez, 28, of Flanders was arrested on aggravated driving while intoxicated charges during a traffic stop on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays early Saturday.

Police stopped Mr. Benitez around 6 a.m. and found he was intoxicated and driving without a court-ordered interlock device.

He was charged with circumventing an interlock device and aggravated DWI, reports said.

• Police arrested a 24-year-old Flanders man for DWI after he was involved in a crash on Peconic Avenue in Riverside Sunday night.

Marcos Suruysican was charged with DWI and transported to police headquarters, according to officials.

• A 38-year-old Riverhead man turned himself in to police Saturday after he was involved in a DWI-related crash last month.

Police said Byron Ixpecboch was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Sept. 11 and flown to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he consented to a chemical test.

He was arrested at police headquarters and charged with DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

• Southampton Town police arrested a 41-year-old Riverhead man for violating a trespass agreement in Riverside Saturday around midnight.

According to police, the man was seen sitting on a wall at the private property and issued a violation.

• A 23-year-old Flanders man was charged with resisting arrest following a traffic stop in Tuckahoe last Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Kevin Vallejo was stopped on County Road 39 for speeding when police discovered his license was currently suspended.

As police directed Mr. Vallejo to step out of his vehicle and place him under arrest, he reportedly tensed both arms and began pulling away to prevent handcuffs from being placed around his wrists.

Police were able to detain Mr. Vallejo, who was also later found to be in possession of a drug pipe and an undisclosed amount of marijuana.

He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and several violations, according to police.

• Police arrested a Riverhead Town Taxi driver for driving with a suspended license during a traffic stop on County Road 104 in Riverside early last Wednesday morning.

Gerron Floyd, 39, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and released on an appearance ticket, police said.

The vehicle was turned over to the taxi company, police said.

• A woman reported her pocketbook stolen to police last Thursday morning after she woke up to an alert on her phone that someone attempted to use her credit card at a Riverside deli around 5 a.m.

Detectives are investigating but have not made any arrests in the incident and advised the woman to cancel her credit cards.

• A Northampton resident reported to police that an unknown person may have used a saw to remove a catalytic converter from a van on Speonk Riverhead Road last Tuesday morning.

• Detectives are investigating after a Riverside woman reported that she never got her $1,700 stimulus check and the IRS notified her the check had been cashed last Tuesday.

According to a police report, the woman then received a phone call from an attorney, who advised her that a client of his had cashed her check. The woman, who recently moved, believes someone living at her prior residence stole the check from the mailbox and forged her name.

• Someone smashed windows on two vehicles at Riverhead Precision Collision on Riverleigh Avenue in Riverside overnight last week.

A man reported the incident to police last Wednesday after arriving at the shop and discovering the damage.

Blotters: Unlicensed driver in single-vehicle crash charged with DWI

A single-vehicle crash on Bellows Pond Road in Hampton Bays resulted in the arrest of a Flanders man who did not have a valid license early Monday morning, according to Southampton Town police.

The crash occurred just before 1:30 a.m. when Edwin Garcia, 30, reportedly drove too fast around a corner and flipped his car. Mr. Garcia told officers he had three beers and was driving to his Flanders home. Mr. Garcia did not suffer serious injuries and declined medical attention from the Hampton Bays Ambulance volunteers who responded. 

Mr. Garcia was issued a standardized field sobriety test and was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated for a blood alcohol content of .18% or more. He was also charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and traffic violations. 

• A Baiting Hollow man who was driving with a suspended license was arrested after a traffic stop in East Quogue Oct. 13, according to police.

Mateusz Pieta, 22, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. He was also found to be in possession of a quantity of “concentrated THC” and had an active bench warrant for a probation violation, police said. He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

He was transported to police headquarters and held to be transferred into custody of Suffolk County Probation Department.

• A Mastic woman who was driving with a suspended license for failing to pay a fine in 2019 was arrested last Wednesday in Riverside, police said.

Kyisha Nash, 25, was stopped on Peconic Avenue just after noon for driving with an expired inspection. Police found her license had been suspended by the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Court. She was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and traffic violations, police said.

• A Shinnecock Hills man was arrested last Thursday in Riverside for driving without a license, police said.

Kardo Thompson, 31, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, as well as traffic violations, police said. He was stopped on Old Quogue Road at 11:48 a.m. He was released on an appearance ticket.

• A Wading River man reported last Thursday afternoon that an unknown person illegally charged about $10,000 to his credit card, according to Riverhead Town police.

• Two men stole about $2,200 worth of items from the Ulta store on Route 58 Saturday afternoon. 

• A woman’s purse was recovered Tuesday afternoon at Marshall’s on Route 58, but about $500 had been taken from the purse, according to police. 

• Wilmer Berganza, age and address unavailable, was charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash on Route 58 last Thursday afternoon. 

• A Wading River resident told police that someone stole a wallet from his unlocked car Friday afternoon on Creek Road, according to police. 

• A bicycle was reported stolen from a home in Glenwood Village on Route 58 Tuesday.

Blotters: Police, fire crews help rescue three people in Great Peconic Bay

Riverhead police received a report of a vessel in distress in Great Peconic Bay about 6:10 p.m. Sunday. The Riverhead Town police dive team and Jamesport Fire Department searched the area and found three people in a small aluminum vessel in distress. They were recovered and returned to shore and none of the them required any medical attention, according to police. 

• A white man wearing a wig removed $378 worth of merchandise without paying from the Lowe’s store on Route 58 Monday afternoon. A person matching the same description also stole $129 worth of merchandise from Lowe’s that same day, and $368 worth of merchandise on Saturday, according to police. 

• An Aquebogue resident reported being scammed out of $800 through a false Facebook account Monday night, according to police.

• A woman told police that someone entered her home on Northville Turnpike Monday morning and removed $703 from her wallet, according to police.

• Two women were seen stealing $655 worth of merchandise from the Kate Spade store at Tanger Outlets last Wednesday night, according to police, who said the suspects fled in an unknown direction.

• About $465 worth of Timberland shoes were reported stolen from Famous Footwear on Route 58 last Tuesday afternoon.

• Two vacuums were reported stolen from Target on Route 58 Monday afternoon, according to police.

• An unknown person removed an unspecified amount of jewelry from a home on Benjamin Street in Wading River last Wednesday afternoon. 

• Two political signs were reported stolen from the front lawn of a home on South Jamesport Avenue last Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

• Southampton Town police arrested a Bay Shore man on drug charges during a traffic stop in Flanders early Sunday.

Police said Stanley Bryant was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for an infraction on Flanders Road around 12:50 a.m. when an officer noticed he had a plastic bag of cocaine in plain view.

Further investigation revealed Mr. Bryant, 52, was also in possession of heroin, marijuana and two cell phones suspected to be used for drug dealing, police said, adding that all items were seized as evidence.

Mr. Bryant was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of narcotics, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance as well as two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, reports said.

• A Flanders man called police last Wednesday to report that an unregistered and uninsured truck with a Texas license plate on it was stolen from his Dale Avenue residence.

According to a police report, the man told police that the keys were left inside of the unlocked vehicle, which was reported missing around 1:30 a.m.

Southampton Blotter: Driver charged with DWI after crash in Riverside

Southampton Town police arrested a 44-year-old Hampton Bays man for DWI following a motor vehicle crash in Riverside Friday.

According to police, Wilson Uyaguari Carchipulla, was involved in a crash on Cross River Drive around 8:15 p.m. and admitted having a drink to a state trooper at the scene.

After administering a field sobriety test, officers charged him with driving while intoxicated, reports said.

• A woman called police Saturday night to report that while she was at work, an unknown person broke the front passenger window on her vehicle and stole a yellow bag and wallet.

The incident, which occurred at Torito Chapin Deli in Flanders, was reported to police shortly before 8:30 p.m.

The woman later contacted police to report that a regular customer returned her purse, which he said was found nearby on Glider Avenue.

• Twan Russell, 42, of Flanders was cited by police Sunday for driving with multiple license suspensions.

Police said he was stopped for a traffic infraction on Pine Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. when an officer discovered Mr. Russell had 19 suspensions. He was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and released on an appearance ticket, officials said.

Blotters: Flanders man injured during crash charged with DWI

Southampton Town police arrested a 38-year-old Flanders man for DWI following a crash on Evergreen Road in Flanders last Monday afternoon.

According to police, Maynor Deleon-Sandoval was involved in a motor vehicle accident shortly before 4 p.m. and was found to be intoxicated at the scene.

He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with a head injury and laceration to his forehead, officials said, and was charged with driving while intoxicated and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

• Police arrested a 30-year-old Aquebogue man for DWI on Riverside Drive Sunday night.

According to police, David Depaz Javier was stopped for making a left turn onto County Road 105 from Flanders Road at a red light around 10:45 p.m. and reportedly told an officer he had three beers before driving.

He was charged with DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said, due to having two previous DWI offenses in the last decade.

• George Trent, 45, of Riverhead was arrested for impaired driving during a traffic stop after being stopped by police in Riverside early Sunday morning.

According to police, he initially failed to comply with an officer attempting to pull him over and did poorly on field sobriety tests around 4:30 a.m.

Mr. Trent was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and several violations, reports said.

• Several pieces of scrap metal were reported stolen from outside of a residence on Flanders Road last Tuesday morning.

Extra patrols of the area were requested.

• A Flanders man called police to report that $10,000 was stolen from his night stand and that the money was returned after he called police Friday morning.

The man reportedly told police that he doesn’t lock his room in the house he rents and believes a housemate took the money, according to a report.

• A woman called police Saturday afternoon to report that two garden gnomes were stolen from her front yard in the Riverwoods community.

• Police were called to a home on Pond Drive in Riverside after a woman noticed her front door knob was broken off around 4:30 p.m.

Nothing in the residence was reported missing and extra patrols of the area were conducted.

• Police responded to a home on Topping Drive in Northampton Friday after a woman reported that her son let two people use his vehicle the day before and they didn’t return it.

Police spoke with the woman’s son, who said he does not know the names of the two subjects or where they live.

An officer advised the woman to advise her son to file a formal police report.

• A man stole 25 polo shirts from the Polo Ralph Lauren store in Tanger Outlets last Thursday afternoon, according to Riverhead Town police. The suspect fled on foot. 

Another man stole three sweatshirts from the same store and fled in a blue BMW, according to police. 

• Peter Murro, age and address unavailable, was charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash on Middle Country Road and Wading River Manor Road in Calverton Monday night. 

• A man stole $400 worth of electronics from the Best Buy store on Route 58 Sunday night, according to police. 

• A Calverton woman reported being scammed out of $300 by an unknown person last Thursday afternoon in Calverton, according to police. 

• An Aquebogue woman told police last Wednesday that someone had illegally used her Social Security number to file for unemployment benefits. 

• Someone “keyed” a car parked on Grove Street in Riverhead Sunday afternoon, according to police.

Blotters: Sayville man arrested on drug charges after fleeing scene of crash

Southampton Town police arrested a 42-year-old Sayville man on drug charges following a crash along County Route 94 and Center Drive in Riverhead Friday.

According to police, Twan Russell fled the scene of the crash and was located nearby at Riverside Taxi.

Mr. Russell reportedly told police that he did not stop and wait for police to arrive because he was nervous and had never been in an accident before, officials said.

Further investigation revealed Mr. Russell had been driving with a suspended license and was in possession of a pink heart-shaped pill he told police was ecstasy, police said.

He was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

The driver that remained on scene was treated by Flanders Ambulance and transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via helicopter, police said.

• Police arrested Yoser Perez, 24, of Riverhead for driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop Friday.

According to officials, police received a call about a reckless, erratic driver near Lake Avenue in Riverside and stopped Mr. Perez for failing to maintain his lane around 11:10 p.m. 

He was found to be intoxicated, officials said.

• A 41-year-old Flanders man is facing a criminal mischief charge following a dispute with a housemate last Monday.

According to a report, police were called to a home on Long Neck Boulevard in Flanders shortly before 2 a.m. after Jenis Alvarado attempted to break down another tenant’s door with a knife, causing damage.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, police said.

• A clerk at the Flanders 7-Eleven called police early Monday after three people, whom he described as men dressed like women, entered the store around 2:45 a.m. and stole coffee and other items.

A Riverhead woman told police Friday afternoon that someone had stolen her dog, which was valued at $800, according to police.

• A Riverhead woman told police last Wednesday that someone attempted to collect unemployment insurance in her name. 

A Wading River man filed a similar complaint later that day. 

• A woman stole $307 worth of baby clothes from the Gap at Tanger Outlets last Tuesday morning, according to police. The report of the theft was made Friday. 

• A Kobolt drill valued at $269 was reported stolen from Lowe’s on Route 58 last Wednesday afternoon. 

• John Harrington, age and address unavailable, was arrested and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing last Thursday night on Sound Shore Road. 

• A child’s scooter was reported stolen from a home on Sandalwood Lane in Riverhead last Wednesday night. 

• An unspecified number of shoes were reported stolen from Famous Footwear on Route 58 last Thursday afternoon. 

• Two bottles of liquor were reported stolen by a man from Riverhead Liquor Mart last Thursday night. 

• A global positioning system, a wallet and a driver’s license were all reported stolen from a car parked on Forge Road in Calverton Saturday, according to police. 

• Someone dumped several bags of garbage on the sidewalk on Railroad Avenue Monday morning, just west of the train station, according to police.

A 63-year-old Hampton Bays man was arrested Sunday for driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 105 and Flanders Road in Riverside.

Kenneth Mujsce reportedly told police a vehicle cut him off and he was taken to PBMC shortly before midnight.

Police arrested Mr. Mujsce for DWI at the hospital and released him on an appearance ticket.

• Police arrested a 28-year-old Flanders man for DWI after he ran a stop sign in Hampton Bays early Sunday.

Police said Gelcin Alvarado-Garcia rapidly approached a police vehicle at a stop sign near Montauk Highway and North Shore Road shortly after midnight, then “abruptly pulled into the right turn lane” and sped through with tires screeching.

Mr. Alvarado-Garcia then reportedly lost control of the vehicle, traveling onto a center median before overcorrecting to the right, police said.

He was stopped on Newtown Road and arrested for DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reports said.

• A 34-year-old Jamesport man was arrested for driving with a revoked license last Thursday in Water Mill.

Elvis Encinas was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle during a traffic stop, according to police.

• Police arrested a 37-year-old Flanders man on drug charges following a traffic stop on Evergreen Road last Monday morning.

After Christopher McErlean was stopped for passing vehicles in the center turning lane around 7 a.m., an officer found heroin and a syringe inside his vehicle.

He was arrested for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle for driving with a revoked license, officials said.

• A leaf blower was reported stolen from a shed in the Riverwoods Community in Riverside Saturday afternoon. Another leaf blower and a drill were reported stolen by resident of that neighborhood last Monday.

• Kendrick Gill, 26, of Riverhead was arrested for driving with a suspended license along Moriches Riverhead Road in Northampton Saturday morning.

He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and released on an appearance ticket, police officials said.

• Vernon Arrington, 63, of Bellport was arrested and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle following a traffic stop along Flanders Road last Tuesday around 8:20 a.m.

• Someone stole a Cannondale mountain bike valued at $1,500 and assorted power tools valued at $3,000 from a business on West Main Street last Thursday morning, according to Riverhead Town police. 

• A Riverhead man reported last Tuesday morning that someone had gained access to his Bank of America account and stole $434.49, according to police. 

• A man stole $259 worth of beverages from BJ’s Wholesale Club on Route 58 and took off in a silver Lincoln Navigator Monday night, according to police. 

• An Aquebogue woman told police last Tuesday that someone illegally used her social security number to file for unemployment, according to police. A Riverhead woman made a similar complaint later that day.   

• A 2002 Jeep that had previously been reported stolen was located and returned to its owner, according to police. Additional information was not available.

Blotters: Steel reported missing from storage area in Riverhead

A man told police last Thursday morning that $34,500 worth of steel was missing from a storage area he rents on River Road and West Main Street in Riverhead, according to police. The Detective Division is investigating, according to police.

• A woman stole $500 worth of assorted clothing from the Polo Ralph Lauren store at Tanger Outlets last Thursday afternoon and fled the area in a red Jeep, according to police. Shortly afterward, police received a complaint about a woman stealing $150 worth of merchandise from the Forever 21 store at Tanger Outlets and fleeing eastbound on foot in the parking lot.

• An unknown male stole $118 worth of merchandise from Stop & Shop on Route 58 Friday, according to police. Additional information was not available.

• Laura Rutkowski, age and address unavailable, was charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday night on Iron Pier in Northville, according to police. 

• Southampton Town police arrested Brianna Phillipe, 25, of Riverside last Thursday for drinking an open container of alcohol in public and resisting arrest. 

Police said she became belligerent after an officer approached her near Marta’s Deli in Riverhead and refused to place her hands behind her back after the officer told her she was under arrest. A records check found she had an active bench warrant from Suffolk County District Court for petit larceny. She was charged with violating Southampton regulations against open containers of alcohol in public, as well as a misdemeanor for resisting arrest. She was placed in the custody of the Suffolk County Police Department. 

• Octavio Solano, 37, of Flanders was arrested last Thursday for driving while intoxicated after he crashed into another vehicle and left the scene of the accident. Police said they responded to a 911 call around 1:30 p.m. about an erratic driver on Flanders Road in Flanders, eventually finding Mr. Solano on Oak Avenue. 

Mr. Solano was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, second degree aggravated unlicensed operation and circumventing an interlock device. He was held for morning arraignment. 

• Police arrested a 20-year-old man in Flanders on Sunday for driving without a license and suspended driving privileges, after stopping him for moving from his lane unsafely, according to a police report. 

Domingo Pasquale of Bridgehampton was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle as well as traffic violations.

• Police responded to several complaints about graffiti in Riverside and Flanders on Tuesday. In at least two separately reported incidents, someone wrote either “MOSS” or “Toss” on boarded up structures and “RBC” on a window using black paint. At other locations, someone wrote “MOSS” or “TOSS” in black paint on a guard rail, “RBC” in blue on a storm drain and “Moss” on another boarded-up structure. An investigation is pending. Police responded to another complaint about graffiti in Riverside on Saturday but found it had already been documented.

Blotters: Driver in stolen car attempts to flee police

Southampton Town police arrested Marcelo Velezvelin, 38, of Hampton Bays in Riverside Sunday for driving a vehicle with stolen plates and fleeing a police officer.

According to a police report, Mr. Velezvelin was observed speeding and driving through a stop sign at Ludlam Avenue and Flanders Road. He then drove through a red light at the Flanders Road intersection, recklessly passing several vehicles. He failed to pull over after police began pursuit, continuing to drive recklessly and ignore stoplights. 

Mr. Velezvelin was arrested after pulling into a Riverhead driveway. Police say the rear license plate had been reported stolen and the vehicle was not registered or insured. It was impounded and towed to police headquarters.

Mr. Velezvelin was charged with multiple counts of speeding and passing red lights, fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, reckless driving, a violation for improper plates, driving an unregistered, uninspected and uninsured vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign and third-degree unlawful flight from a police officer in a motor vehicle.

• Leida Leonvazquez, 36, of Hampton Bays was arrested for driving while intoxicated last Tuesday after crashing into a pole in Flanders.

The police report noted that her breath smelled strongly of alcohol, her eyes were bloodshot and glassy and she fell to the ground upon stepping out of the vehicle. She refused standard field sobriety tests but did submit to a preliminary breath test.

Ms. Leonvazquez was transported to police headquarters for processing. She’s charged with aggravated DWI — with two previous convictions within 10 years — moving from a lane unsafely and driving without a license.

• Police arrested Gustavo Garciagutierrez, 33, of East Hampton for DWI after stopping him at a designated checkpoint in Flanders July 4. Mr. Garciagutierrez was charged with his first DWI offense and for driving without a license.

• A 20-year-old Bridgehampton man was arrested July 4 in Flanders for driving with a suspended license, according to a police report.

After Richard Domingo was stopped for failing to maintain his lane of travel, a DMV check found his license had been suspended for failure to pay a fine in September 2019.

Mr. Domingo was released pending a future court appearance. He’s charged with driving without a license, moving from a lane unsafely and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

• Police stopped Carlos Floresortiz, 19, of Riverside in Flanders July 3 for driving without plate lamps. He could not show identification and gave police a false name. 

According to a report, the officer recognized Mr. Floresortiz from a previous arrest and warned him of the consequences,, but Mr. Floresortiz gave the same name again.

He was charged with false personation, driving without a license and an equipment violation.

• Police arrested Mitzi Menzel, 49, of Hampton Bays at a roadside sobriety checkpoint in Flanders July 3.Mr. Menzel was charged with his first DWI offense.

• A man stole four pocketbooks from the Coach store at Tanger Outlets Friday night and fled on foot through the parking lot, according to Riverhead Town police. The value of the stolen items is $1,652, according to police.

• Chaki Ligon of Riverhead, 38, was charged with petit larceny and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance following his arrest last Thursday at police headquarters.

• A paddleboard was reported stolen from the driveway of a home on Park Road in Baiting Hollow Monday afternoon. The estimated value of the paddle board was $250, according to police. 

• A woman told police last Tuesday afternoon that someone had broken the passenger side window of her unoccupied 2005 Volkswagen Passat and stolen her wallet at the Roanoke Landing Beach in Riverhead.

Blotters: Riverside man charged with assault after hitting someone with wrench

Southampton police arrested Ruben Estrada, 43, of Riverside in his hometown last Tuesday for second-degree assault. 

According to a police report, Mr. Estrada injured someone by hitting them with a wrench.

• Police stopped Jose Quitocapon, 23, of Riverhead Saturday for failing to stay in his lane while driving in Riverside.  

Mr. Quitocapon was arrested after a police DMV inquiry showed that he was driving with a suspended client identification. His vehicle was impounded and towed to police headquarters. 

Mr. Quitocapon has been charged with moving from lane unsafely, alcohol-related aggravated unlicensed operation, operating a motor vehicle without a circumvent interlock and driving without a license. He’s been released on uniform traffic tickets.

• Angelica Rodriguez, 36, of Flanders was arrested in Hampton Bays last Wednesday for driving with a suspended registration after an insurance lapse since late December 2020, police said. 

She was charged with a motor vehicle violation and released with uniform traffic tickets, to appear in court at a later date. 

• Police arrested Scott Alton, 52, of Riverhead in Riverside Saturday for public consumption of alcohol. He was processed and released in the field. 

• An unknown person defaced a check Monday morning and then cashed it for $9,000 in Jamesport, according to Riverhead Town police. The matter has been turned over to the detective division.

• Charles Roach, age and address unavailable, was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal contempt and one court of criminal obstruction of breathing early Saturday morning at the Greenview Motel on West Main Street.

• Daniel Mallahan, age and address unavailable, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal impersonation following his arrest last Wednesday afternoon on Railroad Avenue in Riverhead, according to police. 

•Someone stole $3,000 worth of gift cards from a home on Haverton Court in Riverhead in what police described as a scheme to defraud. Additional information was not available.

• Someone threw eggs at a car on West Main Street on Riverhead Friday night, according to police. 

• A woman stole $60 worth of men’s clothing from the Hanes Brands store at Tanger Outlets Saturday afternoon and then fled on foot.

Blotters: Resident reports $1,800 in cash stolen from vehicle

A Hubbard Avenue resident told police Tuesday morning that someone had entered his unlocked vehicle and stole $1,800 in cash and other items, according to Riverhead Town police. 

• A Baiting Hollow man told police Sunday that someone had used his personal information to open a Bank of America account and then made three purchases from that account. 

The same victim also used his information to open a Santander Bank account in Boston, according to police, who did not say the value of the purchases. 

• Jaclyn Trice, age and address unavailable, was charged with driving while intoxicated Tuesday night on Fanning Street and Mill Road in Riverhead. 

• Edgar Dodoy, age and address unavailable, was charged with DWI Saturday afternoon on East Main Street. Additional information was not available.

• Daniel Herrle, age and address unavailable, was charged with second-degree harassment following his arrest last Wednesday afternoon on Tyler Drive in Riverhead. Additional information was not available. 

• Kristin Spellman, 41, of Riverhead was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant for petit larceny on Friday night.

Southampton Town police arrested a man from Hampton Bays for driving while intoxicated on Saturday. 

Heeroo Yashvin, 40, was stopped in Flanders for driving 15 miles per hour in a posted 40 zone. Mr. Yashvin climbed into the backseat when the reporting officer approached the vehicle. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and failed a pre-screen breath test. He was taken to police headquarters for processing. 

Mr. Yashvin has been charged with DWI, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway, a violation for driving without a license and additional traffic violations.

• A Flanders caller reported potential identity theft to police last Tuesday. 

The caller told police someone called claiming to be her credit card company, reporting fraudulent activity on her AARP credit card. She provided some information over the phone before becoming suspicious. At the time she spoke with police, there was no fraudulent activity on her banking statements or credit card. 

Police advised the caller to alert her credit monitoring agencies and enroll in additional identity theft protection. The caller said she canceled her credit card as well.

Southampton Blotter: Arrests for driving while intoxicated

At about 3:40 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, Southampton Town police arrested Cristian Alvarez- Moncada of Calverton, 24, who was observed sleeping behind the wheel of his running vehicle, while blocking the parking lot entrance at the Budget Inn at 30 Lake Ave. in Riverside. It was determined that he was operating his motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. 

Mr. Alvarez-Moncada was arrested, taken to Southampton police headquarters for processing and held for a morning arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court at morning arraignment.  He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

• On Saturday, June 3, about 12:31 a.m., Southampton Town police arrested Miguel Flores-Salas, 26, of Hampton Bays. Flores-Salas was observed in his stopped vehicle on Flanders Road after failing to maintain his lane of travel. An interview determined that he had been driving in an intoxicated condition. He was arrested, taken to Southampton police headquarters for processing and held for a morning arraignment. He was charged with DWI and multiple traffic violations.

Blotters: Holiday weekend DWI crackdown

As part of a statewide crackdown on drunk and reckless driving, Riverhead Town police made nine arrests for driving while intoxicated and related infractions over the Labor Day weekend, according to officials. 

The police department’s increased enforcement began Friday, Aug. 30, and continued into Monday, Sept. 2. The enforcement effort included increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints held at three different times and locations on Friday, police said. 

Those arrested at the various checkpoints were: 

• Joseph Venturo, 61, Calverton, DWI; vehicle seized 

• George Conard, 60, Garden City, driving while ability impaired/alcohol 

• Bryan Carnizales Lopez, 28, Riverhead, DWI 

• Brittany Smith, 35, Mastic Beach, DWI

• Elfego Bolvito, 25, Riverhead, aggravated felony DWI

• Ryan Goldberg, 27, Franklin Square, DWI

• Ivan Hernandez, 36, Calverton, DWI/refusal

• Howard Gassert, 45, Riverhead, DWI

• Hugo Ardon Hernandez, 22, Greenport, aggravated felony DWI 

Riverhead police say they will continue their DWI enforcement throughout the year, with increased enforcement expected during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons.

• A Flanders man was arrested Sunday for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated, according to Southampton Town police. Juan Garcia Fuentes, 25, was arrested about 7:40 p.m. Sept. 1 on Oak Avenue in Flanders, where it had been reported that the driver of a vehicle had struck a female pedestrian and left the scene, police said. 

Mr. Garcia Fuentes was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, both misdemeanors, as well as state vehicle and traffic law violations.

• An investigation was conducted Sunday into complaints about items, including a number of tools, reported stolen from a vehicle, according to Southampton Town police. On Sept. 1, about 9 p.m., police arrested Brian Jenkins, 57, of Riverhead and charged him with fourth-degree larceny, an E felony.
